Our Vision

The Launching

LOIG is registered as an official Non-Profit Non-Governmental Organization at the Lebanese Ministry of Interior and Municipalities with the help of our legal advisor.
Additionally, LOIG is an ASCO Oncology Student Interest Group (OSIG).
The founding board is formed by medical students from the American University of Beirut and the Lebanese University. The subsequent boards include members from all the medical faculties in Lebanon. This term’s (2025/2026) new board includes medical students from the American University of Beirut, the Lebanese American University, the University of Balamand, the Lebanese University, the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, the University of Saint Joseph, and the Saint George University of Beirut.

In addition to the board, the LOIG team includes 24 ambassadors representing each faculty of medicine across Lebanon. Ambassadors play a key role in expanding LOIG’s reach within their respective medical schools by promoting the organization’s mission and leading projects that align with its core values and objectives. Since its launch on social media in 2021, LOIG has used digital platforms to coordinate activities, share updates, and communicate events, fundraisers, and educational initiatives with the community. Currently, LOIG engages a growing audience through approximately 1,200 members across its WhatsApp groups, over 2,000 followers on Instagram (@loig.ngo), and more than 900 followers on LinkedIn.

The NGO’s Activities

Webinars

Monthly webinars will feature Lebanese and international oncology experts, including graduate medical students from the U.S. and Europe, to guide aspiring medical students on career tracks and application processes. Additional sessions will also inform students and the public about the latest advancements and ongoing research in oncology.

Fundraising events

We offer volunteering opportunities to create support groups for cancer patients and fundraising events aiming to provide financial coverage for treatment.

Clinical and Research opportunities

Furthermore, by acting as a link between interested medical students and renowned experts in the various fields of oncology, whether in Lebanon or worldwide, LOIG provides clinical and research volunteering opportunities for medical students to benefit from and shadow oncologists of all kinds.

Workshops

Workshops will provide a practical and interactive learning environment where students can enhance their clinical skills and knowledge. These may feature guest speakers, experts, or researchers who share their insights and expertise on specialised areas in the medical field.

Newsletter

LOIG releases a biannual newsletter highlighting activities from the past six months, discussing topics in oncology, and promoting upcoming events.

Elective opportunities

Another aim of LOIG is to connect motivated students with practicing physicians in the United States and Europe, providing opportunities for electives abroad.

Achievements

Looking back at this past year’s highlights, we are proud to share some of our achievements and events. First and foremost, we organize monthly clinics, including screening days and awareness campaigns. These clinics are supported and funded by our monthly fundraisers held across universities in Lebanon, which not only help run the clinics but also allow us to donate a portion of the proceeds to CCCL and other NGOs, supporting cancer patients and spreading hope in the community.

To date, more than 7,384$ were raised.
Also, we hold many symposiums with renowned and exceptional guest speakers from all around the globe, tackling some of the booming subjects and interventions.
Not to forget the fruitful webinars discussing some milestones in the medical field such as robotics, residency paths and many others.
